A MESSAGE FROM CO-HOSTS ROCK SPRINGS HIGH SCHOOL:
Hello Theater Teachers and Directors,
Rock Springs High School wanted to send you some dimensions for the mainstage events. At Fall Conference, we discussed having 3 main acting areas including centerstage, and the stage right and stage left wings. These will all have their own isolated lighting cues, so that you can change location in your play, or light all 3 areas. They will also have a cool and warm wash. You are highly encouraged to utilize the rounded wings and the apron/ pit. Think of the RSHS stage as a proscenium/thrust stage. There will also be an ACT curtain 16ft upstage of the proscenium arch, and this will push the actors closer to the audience. You may elect to have all action upstage of the arch, and we can raise the ACT curtain.
The Arena stage has not yet been built, and RSHS plan on constructing it the first part of November. Currently, there are no images of that stage, but it will be a 20ft x 20ft stage, and be on a 6inch lift from the floor. There will be entrances from all four corners of the stage. However, the actors will not be able to cross from side to side backstage, so be prepared to have your actors enter in the spot that they exited. We have been provided a portable lighting system and an Element Board, so you can preprogram your lights on an board at your home school, and transfer your cues via flash drive. Check back soon for photos of the Arena space once construction begins.
Here is a list of set pieces that RSHS can provide for both Arena and Proscenium:
- 6 black chairs
- table
- 3 black boxes
- sofa
Please contact Sterling Merrill (merrillr@sw1.k12.wy.us) if you need a specialty item. They may have it in stock. It will be difficult for buses to turn around or unload other set pieces at the high school during school hours, so it would be best if all props could be already on site or could be located beforehand.
